If you are looking for simple ways to increase online sales in 2020 here’s some good news…
There are dozens of ways that you can increase online sales. This post is going to explore the 5 simplest ways so that you can get started right away.
Be Honest and Transparent
This might sound obvious but you need to be honest and transparent in your marketing and advertising copy.
Consumers today are far more wary of hype, “too good to be true” offers, promises that seem unlikely to be kept or product descriptions that are exaggerated.
You want to build trust and loyalty for your brand. Making promises that you just can’t keep, or offering things under false pretences is just going to end up damaging your reputation and will, in the long run, damage your sales.
Be honest and upfront with your customers. If you know that there is a negative to a product then state it. For example “Not waterproof” or “Unsuitable for children under 3 years”.
Being honest in your marketing will help you develop trust among your customers and this in turn will help you get recommendations and testimonials.
Share some social proof
I mentioned above the recommendations and testimonials. Use these in your marketing.
These days customer look for social proof. They want to see what others think of your products before they make the decision to purchase. How many times have you read the reviews before buying something?
If someone has left you a nice review on Facebook or a recommendation on LinkedIn, screenshot it (you can always crop their name out) and share it on your social media posts.
Letting people know that you have satisfied customers is important as this will help others make their buying decision, especially if it comes down to a choice between you and someone else.
So many of my clients are not using this really simple way of demonstrating the value of their products and services and yet it is one of the simplest ways of building trust in your business.
Offer a full money back guarantee
I know you might be baulking at this idea but think for a moment. Why would anyone want to get their money back?
Are you offering what you promise in your marketing? Does the product or service live up to your hype? Is the product or service as good as you say it is? It should be, otherwise go back and visit number 1 in this list.
If your product or service is as good as you say it is, and it will do what you say it will do, or it will bring about the transformation that you promise, why would anyone want their money back?
But I get it, there are always those people who you will never be able to please and we just have to accept that. But, offering a money back guarantee will help to overcome the risk associated with making the purchase.
If someone is saying “but what if they don’t like it?”, or “but what if it doesn’t fit?” or “what if I try it for a month and it’s not working for me?” This might mean they don’t risk making the purchase, so they will never know
If you offer them a full money back guarantee you are overcoming these objections and making it easier for them to make that buying decision.
Limit the options
Having too much choice is sometimes worse than having too little. The more options you give a customer the more thought they have to put into the purchase. This can sometimes mean they choose nothing. Here’s how that actually worked out in my life…
I was thinking about replacing my car and at the time I quite fancied the Audi A1.
I went to the local dealership and arranged a test drive and I had one for the day. I loved it and decided that was the car for me.
I then went online to decide which colour etc I wanted and this is where it all fell apart.
I was offered about 16 colours but on top of that I could have dual colours. I decided I would like a dual colour but then the colour I wanted didn’t come with the roof colour I wanted.
There were about 5 different body kits and 4 different interior options – I was completely overwhelmed with choice and didn’t really know which one I wanted.
Had the option been red, black or white I would have bought the car. As it was I never did as I just couldn’t make my mind up what I wanted.
So, my advice to you would be to limit the choices you give so that you are not overwhelming your customer and making them think too much about the purchase.
Smoother checkout process
According to Business Insider, approximately $4 TRILLION worth of online merchandise was abandoned in incomplete shopping carts last year alone, of which 63% was potentially recoverable. This is a truly jaw-dropping statistic, and one that reveals how crucial it is to nail your checkout process.
Think about your own experience when you are shopping online. How many clicks are you prepared to make before you get fed up and click away from the site?
The truth is that every click that the customer has to make is an opportunity for them not to do so. If you have 4 clicks before they finally make the purchase you are giving them 4 opportunities to change their mind.
Why do you think Amazon introduced the “Buy With One Click” option? Take your lead from the giants in the industry and do what they do. Make it as easy as possible for your clients to make the purchase.
Make it even easier for yourself
Marketing isn’t easy is it? There are so many things to consider such as:
